Hickman High School PTSA Activities
Why join and support Hickman’s PTSA? Here are just some of the ways we support our Kewpie community.
Fostering Communication and Organizing to Support Hickman
- Hickman PTSA Facebook group - share information and answer questions on behalf of parents, students & teachers about all things CPS and HHS
- Kewpie PTSA website and social media presence (Instagram, X)
- PTSA Executive Committee meets quarterly (or as needed) to address requests from HHS for help, assistance, or support.
Raising Money to Support Our School Community
- Concessions - we offer food at various sporting events to support our athletic programs and to serve the public. (Concessions provides the only stream of income for HHS PTSA.)
- Develop fundraising connections - Our focus this year is on Barnes & Noble fundraising day in December.
Organizing Volunteers and Giving Back
- Landscaping & Beautification - Kewpie Clean Up volunteers work to make campus shine the second Saturday of each month.
- Volunteer Help at HHS - help with school photos, flu shot clinics & health fair activities, TIDE guest speaker day help.
- Can-Do Crew - parent & student volunteers help ready the school building. This August we moved textbooks and materials, cleaned up classrooms and storage, readied bulletin boards, and more.
Supporting Teachers and Staff
- Teacher Appreciation Meals - about once a month
- Kewpie Grant Program - support teachers through monetary contributions to items/activities teachers request to supplement classroom experiences
- Provide food, hospitality support, and other things for HHS events as requested
- Recognition of staff and faculty during special events - Teacher Appreciation Week (work with Admin to provide things for faculty); custodian, bus driver, nutrition services appreciation
- Teacher/staff reimbursement - support purchases for students and/or classrooms ($50 for full-time and $25 for part-time teachers)
Supporting Hickman Students
- Club Cash - new support for clubs and activities via student-led grants
- Reflections Program - recognition of artists, writers, and musicians via the national PTA Reflections program
- PTSA Awards Ceremony to recognize students who have contributed to their extracurricular activities
- Support for the Hickman Review literary magazine, EL and AVID graduation programs
- Support for student extracurricular activities and groups through payment for their work in Concessions
- Student support team - contributions to emerging needs for students, in partnership with Principal Mary Grupe and admin team
Communicating with CPS Administration–Advocating for HHS and CPS
- Attend School Board meetings and follow up as needed
- Participate in quarterly Parent Advisory Committee events with Superintendent
- Meet with Aslin administrators regularly to provide feedback and information about district and HHS issues of concern to parents, students, faculty and/or staff
